The Edith project started with a garage reconstruction project, the project goal was to demolish the existing garage which was structurally failing, and replace it with a similar structure with the same footprint and in the same location.

As we proceeded with the design and construction drawings our client had a change of mind and decided to turn the garage into an accessory living area with a kitchenette and bathroom.
By the time we obtained the building permit for reconstruction and replacement of the garage the client was also able to provide the budget to move beyond just the permit. We therefore proposed to turn the ceiling of the garage into a vaulted ceiling with almost 14 feet at its pick. We then added several skylights to enhance the interior light. Instead of placing a garage door, we installed a large glass door and window in the front and added a large window to the side facing the backyard.

The changes we made to the original permit transformed the garage into a lovely working/living space surpassing the architectural quality of the main house.
